One Day - One Week

We specialize in thorough ultrasound examinations, which we discuss with the patient during the visit and report to the referring physician promptly. We believe that an amnio has an essential role in wellness testing, and we make provision in our schedule for an amnio to be performed during the first ultrasound visit, if it is indicated, desired by the patient, and without any factors that we identify that might impair safety. We believe we are as expert in ultrasound examinations as any facility in the world, we still appreciate the role of diagnostic certainty conveyed by an amnio and its anxiety relieving power.

High resolution karyotyping is, typically, completed and reported to the referring physician about a week after an amnio. There are genetic probes that can be used for specific concerns that are reported within a day. Discussion of options is part of the informed consent process.

We utilize web based tracking of the entire laboratory process, so that vital information about the specimen and the test results are always available without delay.

Every patient has special concerns and preferences. Many patients will not want an amnio under any circumstances. That is their right and privelege. Usually, we do not even raise the possibility until after we have as thorough an examination as our equipment and fetal size, depth, and position will allow. All of our studies are interactive; we encourage our patients to join in our guiided tours of their babies-to-be and to participate in optimizing care withtheir own physicians and with us.
