Ultrasound @ AmnioNet
We try to see as much as we can, as early in the pregnancy as patients visit.
We think of each examination as an exploration of Fetal Space. No matter how often we have been to this special and private place, we are always awed.
Every study is a fetal physical examination. We use high resolution imaging techniques.
An amnio tells us about chromosomes and also about those specific diseases whose gene sequences have been established. Ultrasound lets us look at how organs are forming, and we try to infer how those systems are functioning. Because there is so much to look at ultrasonically and so many diagnostic possibilities to consider, we believe that detailed examinations have to be performed by a physician. |

All too often we hear stories from patients like, "I went to THE HOSPITAL where I waited for 6 hours,....was told I had to keep filling my bladder.... a technician took a long time but wouldn't tell me anything..." Perhaps a little overstated, but you get the idea. Delays can happen at any facility, although we try to underschedule, because we don't know when we might need extra time to work out a complex fetal problem. There is NO preparation for an ultrasound (full bladders are NOT NECESSARY OR APPROPRIATE), and we discuss our findings with patients and with their own physicians.
